"The era of reasoning with these savages is over." Security Council holds closed meeting over Hamas attack on Israel
On October 8, the UN Security Council held a closed meeting on the situation in Israel. Reuters noted that it lasted about 90 minutes. No statements or resolutions were adopted at the meeting, participants told CNN.
US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood told reporters that at the meeting, many countries condemned the Palestinian group Hamas for the attack on Israel, but not all. "You could probably figure one them out," Wood said. According to AFP journalists, he was "clearly hinting at Russia, whose relations with the West have sharply deteriorated since the invasion of Ukraine."
Palestine's permanent observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, accused Israel of blockading the Gaza Strip, and US and Israeli permanent representatives called for a strong condemnation of Palestinian Islamists.
"The era of reasoning with these savages is over. Now is the time to destroy the terrorist infrastructure of Hamas, to completely wipe it out so that such horrors will never happen again," Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan told reporters.
