On Thursday Nov 23, the Israel Air Force destroyed an unassuming house (pic) in Beit Yahoun in south #Lebanon, at least six miles from the closest border point with #Israel. The strike killed five Hezbollah fighters, but provoked an unprecedented Hezbollah reaction, militarily and publicly. This is how the AP described Hezbollah’s behavior that day:
“Hezbollah released at least 21 statements claiming attacks on Thursday alone making it a record in one day since the fighting began last month. The group said its fighters also struck Israeli tanks.”
Since Hezbollah started its war on Israel on October 8, Israel has killed 83 Hezbollah fighters, and less than 10 civilians, showing not only superb IDF precision, but incisive intel. On Nov. 23, Israel’s killing of 5 Hezbollah fighters hit a nerve with the pro-Iran militia. The most known of the fighters was Abbas (pic), the son of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc leader Muhammad Raad. Hezbollah chief’s son, Jawad Nasrallah, eulogized Raad, calling him the comrade of “my brother.” The brother was an older Nasrallah, Hadi, a fighter who was killed before Israel withdrew from south Lebanon in 2000. If true, then Abbas and his comrades had been warring for 23 years, and must have been senior leaders with immense warring experience (having fought in Syria too).
Hezbollah also gave exceptional funeral attention to Khalil Jawad Al-Shoheimi (aka Saraj - pic), but did not explain why. Multiple sources in Lebaon have claimed that this Saraj was the Commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces. This Israeli kill went unnoticed in Western media (busy with Free Palestine from the River to the Sea). The three other Hezbollah fighters, who barely received any attention, were Bassam Ali Kanjo, Ahmad Hasan Mustafa, and Muhammad Hasan Sharri.
If Israel has truly taken the commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces and four of his lieutenants, in addition to four Hamas top military leaders that Hamas admitted losing on Sunday, then Hezbollah and Hamas should be scared. This is no ordinary war where Israel exchanges fire across borders, like past rounds, this is one where Israel is laser focused on decimating the top leadership of these pro-Iran militias. In August 2022, in a quick round of war with Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza, Israel took out a dozen of the top PIJ leadership in a few days, some striking their apartments in the middle of buildings that remained standing. This round of war with Hamas and Hezbollah seems to be similar.
