Viking shield discovered at Trelleborg, Denmark, dates back to around 980 AD. Made of pine wood, it has a diameter of about 80 cm and is constructed from 5 planks glued together. Traces of calfskin and red and white paint suggest it was decorated. The shield provides insights into Viking warfare and combat techniques.
It’s displayed at the museum along with other Viking weapons, and you can see marks from weapons testing on a reconstructed version.
