On the eve of the 37th anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown, police presence was heavy around Causeway Bay and #VictoriaPark — the former site of the annual #June4 candlelight vigils.
Around 7:11pm near SOGO (Lockhart Road), artist Mei Tung Chan stood silently for about two minutes holding helium balloons (a silver sphere and a gold question mark).
She was quickly surrounded by plainclothes officers, searched, and later “escorted” to the MTR station. The balloons were reportedly confiscated, burst, and placed into her bag before she was allowed to leave.
