On this 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, we can no longer hold a vigil mourn the dead and call for justice in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park. The organisers of the vigil, my drinking buddy @zouxingtong, my mentor Albert Ho, and my former fellow Mei Foo resident Lee Cheuk-yan are all behind bars, awaiting verdict for alleged subversion after a show trial.

But where there is a candle, a spark is all it takes to light up our rooms, to light up our hearts. Songs that were once sung at the vigil, such as the “Flower of Freedom” that can be heard in this clip, will continue to stiffen our backbones.

Free Chow Hang-tung! Free Albert Ho! Free Lee Cheuk-yan! Free Hong Kong! Free China! Bring perpetrators of political massacres and crackdowns to justice!
