A few days ago, Lobga Palden, also known as Lobga Rangzen, left his final message and self-immolated outside the UN headquarters in New York, calling for a free Tibet.
Outside the Chinese Embassy in London, we gathered to commemorate him, and to explain to embassy staff why a Tibetan would choose to self-immolate as a form of protest.
As the flames rose, he kept walking forward.
It was not only despair. It was pain, anger, faith, and determination — a person using everything he had left to make the Tibetan people’s voice impossible to ignore.
