這是他在季風書園給讀者的一句寄言。離開故土40載，他在美國獲得數座文學界的大獎，用英文寫作，他卻說故鄉對他的束縛一直都在。
「最重要的是把故鄉變成一種能量。」
他數十年前曾為國家領土常與人爭執。而今，他卻說「國家不是最高意義」。重建和探索生存，是這個寫作者一生在做的事情。他認同宗教，尊重不同信仰，他鼓勵年輕人建立起自己的價值。萬事總在變，不要讓故土成為真正的羈絆。
這天的季風，好像真的可以感受到東方吹來的暖。有家就是安穩，卻世道人心，靠一隻筆生存的人，自願流落到遠方找一塊土地親吻，最深沉的愛，大抵如此。

Though four decades have passed since he left his native soil, and despite garnering numerous prestigious literary accolades in America while writing in English, Ha Jin confesses that the ties to his homeland still bind him.
Ha Jin posits the nation is not the ultimate meaning. His life‘s work as a writer has been a constant quest to reconstruct and explore the essence of existence. Embracing spirituality while respecting diverse beliefs, he exhorts the youth to forge their own values. All things are in flux, he warns; one must not allow the roots of home to become true shackles.
